Hoppy Holidays!

The Holidays are upon us! ⛄ For many, "a time of cheer"... and BWF's wish for all humans and animals alike is a warm & safe Holiday 😊 Our hearts are with the forgotten little furry bunny persons, so we hope you remember them with compassion and help us bring relief to the frightened and hurt awaiting help. We need those beautiful humans willing to bend for poor bunnies who have no one. Please email info@bunnyworldfoundation.org to make a miracle for somebunny desperate for care. Every foster parent who provides a new spot makes it possible for BWF to grab bunnies from misery. But without new fosters, we are stuck 😞 Please make fostering little bunnies in-need part of your new year. Happy Holidays to all, and remember... love is a gift that can only be kept by giving it away💕. If you'd like to make the End-of-Year Gift to BWF, please go to http://www.bunnyworldfoundation.org/donate/. Thank you for your support in 2020. Bunny Cheers! <3 ~BWF

Hoppy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Message from Bunny World Foundation

Historically, Thanksgiving began as a tradition to give thanks for a good harvest and rejoice together with the rest of the community after much arduous work. What better time to celebrate our TWELVE-and-a-half-year voyage and give thanks to ALL who have contributed to our Mission!

We especially thank each Foster and Volunteer who has given his/her time, energy, and commitment to BWF during the most recent tragedy that riddled California (and the rest of the world) with incalculable pain and suffering. Nevertheless, the rescue efforts continued because, more than ever, bunnies needed us. The COVID presented a "tiny" challenge for logistics, while a human factor (those awful humans without any shred of decency and integrity) made our efforts even more difficult. However, we persevered. The display of SOLIDARITY, COMPASSION, and GENEROSITY exceeded our expectations. Heroes emerged. Bunny Love won!

Since April, almost 300 displaced bunnies were re-homed by Bunny World Foundation. It took a COMMUNITY to move mountains, and without ALL of us doing our parts, we couldn't have made a dent. Some of our heroes showed up at EVERY WEEKLY ADOPTION EVENT volunteering 12 – 16 hour shifts. Often our brushing circles turned into drumming circles. When it rained and got cold, we got tents and lit the fire; the work went on. We committed to the lives we saved to ensure that our rescued bunnies thrived with a positive vibration.

Thank you for showing your support through thick and thin; especially during times of crisis, for we couldn't possibly overcome them if it weren't for YOU!

Today, as bunny-loving families across America are seated at their Thanksgiving tables; their companion bunnies enjoying all the privileges of a beloved family member, it's more important than EVER to remember the millions of homeless bunnies suffering in high-kill shelters, bunny mills, labs, backyard breeders, fur farms, and abattoirs.

People are unaware that most animal cruelty laws exempt farmed animals, and rabbits are not covered under federal humane slaughter laws. Their suffered lives and painful, terrifying deaths for any Holiday celebration are unconscionable.

That said - the road ahead remains rocky, with many challenges, but continue we must, and we thank you for your loyal support of our efforts to make the world a better place for our much-loved companions.

Sweet Pea's Plea

Sweet Pea (Little Munchkin) was literally snatched from the jaws of early death: A BWF family member spotted the infant under attack by a cat in a Bakersfield apartment courtyard. At barely 3-4 weeks of age, this dumped, helpless, a wisp of a being was almost a snack for outdoor cats; predators that cause devastation to wildlife and victims like Sweet Pea.

The poor abandoned infant was thrown like garbage to the streets, with the broken back, and zero hope of survival -- (likely dumped by a breeder who had no use for a ''broken'' bunny... or by someone who bought this un-weaned baby and mistreated her).

Miraculously, our quick-thinking hero reacted instantly, pulling Sweet Pea from the cat's mouth; after which, he and his girlfriend -(Vegan bunny-advocate and BWF family) - gave the baby proper nourishment, warmth, and a cozy box where she could get her bearings and avoid moving too much. Most importantly, they gave her love; which she responded to immediately... the precious gift of touch and nurturing protection she'd been desperately missing from her mother.

With no time to spare, the remarkable BWF machinery swung into action once again, and mobilized transport for Sweet Pea from distant Bakersfield to eventually Northwood Animal Hospital in Irvine; a convoy that involved several BWF family, and an overnight stay with BWF married Vegan bunny-advocates where she was tended to all night until the morning convoy to the Vet.

All along the way, this angelic, love-giving spirit kept up the fight, enduring her broken back, puncture wounds, trauma, and uncertain future with grit and determination. She's a real survivor who never gave-in to self-pity. Her displays of affection show that she is a budding little love-bug. Now she just needs someone to love her back... for life.

Sweet Pea is currently hospitalized and spending a night with our vet. If you'd like to make a donation towards her exam, x-rays, medication, and potential surgery, please contact Northwood Animal Hospital tomorrow morning at (949) 559-1992. They accept $100+ donations. Otherwise, there's always PayPal and ANY amount is welcome. http://www.bunnyworldfoundation.org/donate/
Our vet bill is currently $15,435.54.  We rescue 50- 75 bunnies a month.  Typically, we bring 10 - 15 bunnies a week for exams and surgeries.   Thank you for your help!

If you're interested in fostering the little one, e-mail us at info@bunnyworldfoundation.org.

Thank you. Pray for the little one! <3

THE SURVIVOR’S STORY & HER PLEA FOR HELP!

This last Tuesday, Bunny World Foundation took NINE bunnies to have surgeries at our vet. Thank you, fosters / volunteers / transporters (Lisa S., Kat L., and Kelly D.) for driving across town and back to get these babies treated.

THE RESCUE
The night before, we were informed by a Good Samaritan that there was yet another injured baby somewhere in South Los Angeles in desperate need. We dug and dug and dug until we found the source contacted the vet, and begged to have ONE more bunny seen. Thanks to the beautiful human, Raquel C., and an incredible BWF volunteer, William L., who agreed to transport this baby the following morning, we got her (we found later that it was a she!) in time. One more day and she would have been dead. Her name is SURVIVOR.

SURVIVOR VS FIGHTER?
We are, however, contemplating the old Viking name, HILDA, which means THE FIGHTER. We'll see. She's STILL hospitalized (since Tuesday!), and her prognosis is guarded. She's receiving critical care, but she’s not strong enough to endure surgery. Also, her eye is oozing puss. We' re hoping that by next Monday, she'll be ready for surgery.

HERE'S THE NOTE FROM OUR VET:
From: Northwood Animal Hospital
Date: Tue, Sep 15, 2020, at 4:49 PM
Subject: Survivor BWF pictures
These are photos of Survivor, the female bunny brought in today. She is very thin, approximately 15% dehydrated, and very weak. Her temperature was subnormal. She was very heavily flea-infested, and her gums were pale, likely from flea anemia. Her incisors were extremely maloccluded and overgrown, so she likely was unable to eat even if she could find food. (We failed to get a photo before trimming them.) Her left eye was sealed shut with pus drainage, but after soaking, we could see her cornea, but it is very cloudy, so it may be a while before we know if we can save her eye. Her molars are also in need of trimming, but we will need to get her stronger before we can safely anesthetize her to trim them. We currently have her on fluids, pain medications, antibiotics, eye ointment, and Critical Care. The estimate to get her back to health, spay her, and take care of her molars and her eye is between $1400 and $2500, depending on what we need to do with her eye. So far, she seems to be responding to treatment. She has a tremendous will to live. Survivor is the right name for her.

Will you help with Lui's amputation surgery?

Will you help with Lui's amputation surgery?

LUI, aka MOOMOO, aka REX, gorgeous four-year-old 10 lbs French Lop, was surrendered to BWF by his previous parents without disclosing his medical condition.  A moment post arriving at BWF, we noticed that Lui was' walking kind of funny.' Lui's recheck radiographs showed severe arthritis in his right hip and stifle, and he exhibited a decreased range of motion in both joints. He also was very lame on that right hind (non-weight bearing), so the vet decided to try him on some Metacam to see if it would help him. Upon recheck, he seemed to be getting along fine and was using the leg some, but it looked like it was still bothering him.  He was touching it down some, but then holding it out and shaking it like it was painful.  Our vet conferred with another specialist regarding routine amputation vs. amputation with FHO vs. disarticulating at the hip.  Recommended amputation at 1/3 femur just above the cerclage wires.   Lui had to undergo surgery, and we set a date for 9/2/2020.

During the short time at BWF, Lui made friends with the residents of Bunny Chateau.  They LOVED him right away. This gentle giant was 10 lbs. of pure love and goodness. He took tiny little Coco (who's got no teeth and has been on Critical Care only for two years!) under his belt and showered him with kisses, cleaned his leftovers of Critical Care, and groomed him when no one else bothered. Lolita Rose was smitten and fell in love immediately with Lui. Lover Jr. discovered that Lui had an abundance of love for all. Everyone got along. Everyone became more loving, even the rebellious Venus. She could have Lover Jr. all for herself and did not mind Lolita Rose any longer.  This giant baby brought love, harmony, and peace to this sweet rabbit family, who all ended up as BC residents due to their unique medical needs.

He has been hospitalized for three days now, and Lolita has been depressed.  She does not understand that her big boyfriend is coming back.  His amputation surgery went well, but it took much longer than anticipated, hence the $2,500 bill. (attached) which makes our monthly bill almost $9,000. Our vet wrote to us: "He was very muscular, especially for not using that leg for a while, and the muscles were all adhered to the bone. Then the incision was large, and the skin very thin, so it took a long time to close. The bone was also very unhealthy and brittle, so I had to smooth it after the cut very carefully. Just a combination of issues."

Lui is leaving the hospital today, but our vet bill remains.  If we are to continue bringing more cases like Lui, we need help.

If you'd like to donate to Lui or any other foster in our care, please visit http://www.bunnyworldfoundation.org/donate/

Thank you so much for your support!
